The Sharjah Classic Cars Club participated in the fifth edition of the Diriyah Classic Cars Festival, held in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, from 27 to 29 February. The festival is considered the largest of its kind in the Middle East, with the participation of more than 500 classic and rare cars.
His Highness Prince Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Abdulrahman, Governor of Diriyah, praised the Sharjah Classic Cars Club’s pavilion during his visit, commending its supportive participation in the festival and applauding the efforts of those who traveled to promote the hobby of collecting and preserving classic cars. The Club’s pavilion witnessed strong public turnout due to the quality and age of the vehicles on display.
His Excellency Dr. Ali Ahmed Abu Al Zoud, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Classic Cars Club, said: “Our participation in the Diriyah Classic Cars Festival reflects the keenness of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, to convey a historic and cultural image of the Emirate of Sharjah as a symbol of culture, civilization, and thought, as well as its interest in documenting the history of the various stages of automotive development.”
He added: “Through this participation, we focused on showcasing the age of the cars, which stand as witnesses to an important historical era in the automotive industry, ensuring they are displayed without additions or modifications and in original factory condition. The selected vehicles were owned by club members and included a 1952 Mercedes-Benz 220 and a 1958 Chevrolet Impala.”
He further emphasized the Club’s commitment to achieving its vision of becoming one of the leading institutions in the field of classic car motorsports in the region, through participation in local and international events and festivals that promote the culture of collecting classic cars as a point of interest and attraction for people of all ages, noting that some of the cars on display are decades older than their owners.
For his part, Saeed Mohammed bin Ashour, Director of the Sharjah Classic Cars Club, praised the organization and the high standard of the accompanying festival activities, which attract global interest from classic car enthusiasts. He noted that the Club is participating in the event for the third consecutive year, aiming to promote the Club’s activities, showcase members’ vehicles, highlight their care and dedication to classic cars, and emphasize the role of the Club’s specialized workshop in maintaining classic vehicles and preserving this valuable heritage.
